Last Survivor of Pearl Harbor Dies at 102

Bellerose, NY

A Pearl Harbor World War II survivor has just died at the age of 102. Lou Conter was on the USS Arizona when it was bombed by Japan on Dec. 7, 1941. At 102, Lou Conter is the last survivor of the USS Arizona. According to reports, Lou was a real hero who tried to save others on the ship after the bombing. Now, I salute that true American hero who went through hell.

Another brave sailor who was there that day on another ship was my former father-in-law, Charles Wieland. After World War II, he was later called back into service and served in the Korean War in Greenland. I served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era. Today, I am a member of the American Legion Post 103 in Douglaston, and also in the Catholic War veterans and Auxiliary Post 1979 in Glen Oaks Village, which helps fellow veterans in need.

I would also like to praise all of our brave men and women in the military today who go above and beyond the call of duty to serve America. As such, I salute you all. Finally, I salute sailor Lou Conter for his service aboard the USS Arizona.
