90-year-old American Legion commander creating a legacy

Port Isabel 498 - Port Isabel, TX

Roger Rodecap is Commander of American Legion Post 498, in Port Isabel, Texas. He has been the post commander for four years. He brought new life into the activities sponsored by the post for veterans and community members. He has created a warm and friendly atmosphere for all who visit the post.

During the winter months, many people migrate to the warmer temperatures in South Texas. Those traveling south are known as Winter Texans and all are welcomed into our post. At any one time during the day, you may find local resident Texas veterans mixed with Winter Texans from all over the country. All are made to feel welcomed with many similar military experiences.

Commander Roger, as he is known, has made it a high priority to greet and meet all who stop by for a rest and make new friends. His officers help in preparing Friday evening fish dinners for all who want to stop in for dinner.

He is a great example for us all to follow.
